Are you aged 12–17 and live, study, or work in the Macedon Ranges Shire?

We are looking for young people to join the Youth Council Working Group and help create the process for the formation and recruitment of a Youth Council.

This is an opportunity for young people who want to contribute to the process of developing a youth council but don’t want to (or can’t) commit to being youth councillors themselves. (If you would like to be a youth councillor, watch this space! Applications for young people wanting to be a youth councillor will be open in 2026.)

Working group spots are limited.

What will the Youth Council do?

The Youth Council will bring together young people from across the Macedon Ranges to share ideas and influence decisions that matter to you by:

  • Working with leaders: get support from Councillors, learn how local democracy works, and take part in real decision-making.
  • Shape the conversation: meet regularly to talk about issues affecting young people and provide advice to Council.
  • Be chosen through expression of interest: Members will be appointed through an Expression of Interest process designed by the Youth Council Working Group.
  • Commit to a two-year term: Starting mid-2026.
  • Represent all local communities: Nine positions will be available. Three from each Council ward.

What will the working group do?

The Working Group is where it all starts.

You’ll help design the Youth Council from the ground up—deciding what the recruitment process looks like, how we get the message out there, and how it works.

Important information to know before you apply

  • You'll need parent/guardian permission to apply.
  • Working group members will not be eligible to apply to join the Youth Council for the 2026 term.
  • You must be aged 12 – 17 years and either live, work, or go to school in the Macedon Ranges Shire.

Where required, the information being collected will be provided to Macedon Ranges Shire Council staff or contractors, to ensure submitters' eligibility and sentiments in relation to the topic of climate change. Without this information, we are not able to accurately assess applications for this group or communicate with submitters.

Information provided will be stored in accordance with Council’s Record Management Policy and destroyed in accordance with the Public Records Act 1973.
