During December 2025 - January 2026, we invited expressions of interest from young people aged 12–17 who live, study, or work in the Macedon Ranges Shire to join the Youth Council Working Group and help create the process for the formation and recruitment of a Youth Council.

This opportunity was designed for young people who want to contribute to the process of developing a youth council but don’t want to (or can’t) commit to being youth councillors themselves.

The Youth Council Working Group has been busy preparing things, and expressions of interest to become a Youth Councillor will open on Friday 20 March.

Keep an eye on this page, and help spread the word to passionate young people with a future in leadership!

What will the Youth Council do?

The Youth Council will bring together young people from across the Macedon Ranges to share ideas and influence decisions by:

  • Working with leaders

Get support from Councillors, learn how democracy works and take part in real decision-making.

  • Shaping the conversation

Meet regularly to talk about issues affecting young people and provide advice to Council.

  • Commiting to a 2-year term

    Starting mid-2026.

  • Representing all local communities

Nine positions will be available. Three from each Council Ward.
